If you find yourself in a similar situation – in the face of art you want to document – remember not to ask Ron to “pose” in order to give a sense of the monumental size, or he will surely do something to delegitimize the graceful integrity of your photo
I thought I would include the below pic to document the world of 2020 travel. We’ve got more travel planned for this fall but we’re open to canceling and staying home. We’re not calling anything yet – the rules change numerous times a week – and, for now, we have tickets for September.
It’s definitely a circus act, though. Put on mask, take off mask to drink, put it back on. Remember that you touched a credit card screen, pull out hand sanitizer. Sanitize. Hand driver’s license to TSA agent, take it back, wonder if you should sanitize the license. Scan boarding pass from phone and then wonder if phone needs sanitizing. It’s a lot. Deciding to take this trip was easy – we had a family focus that needed some attention. Europe this fall is sheer voluntary travel so…

I decided to devote an entire day’s worth of sightseeing to dragging Ron around to look at various sites from my youth that would surely hold no interest at all for him. I started by driving him 11 miles south of downtown (all side streets, yes) so that I could stand in front of my old high school. Then I hauled us 5 miles east to stand around in front of my old house (I know- I said I wouldn’t do it to him) and then we trolled the outskirts of the nearby park where I remember drinking underage wine coolers on the playground. I also took us by my old job – Village Hat Shop – where I tried to strike up a conversation with an extremely uninterested employee after posing for vanity shots.

I’ll talk to you all again next time we head out. San Diego was great but my sights are always focused on Europe and I’m heavy-hearted but trying to be both realistic and optimistic.
Thanks Valerie, we love San Diego too!
