Arrived in Rome: just a few pictures

We made it to Rome! One of the things I was excited about was the train ride between Venice and Rome. I had booked some new train class I researched called “Executive” class, based mostly on our experience in Spain, where the train seats are pretty tight – and Ron ventured out away from me to try to find more space and got evicted by the train porters. Here’s Ron enjoying his seat. There are only 9 seats in the entire car:

Here is a first view of Rome:

And here’s the view of Piazza Navona from our hotel:

We’ve got a lot planned for Rome but the most exciting thing is that Kris and Jim have joined us and so now Ron has a comrade in delving deeper into history and the political atmosphere, actually reading the pamphlets provided by these ancient sites and really appreciating what they’re looking at:

And I have someone to chat with while Ron and Jim look at those maps (I love Rome bus banner behind us was unplanned, but accurate):

We’re heading out on our first day of touring so the only real touristic thing I need to show you at this point is the shower in our hotel room, which is extremely cool in a 1980s disco lounge sort of way, but does not contain any actual light-emitting lights:
