Three quick pics from Meteora

We’re done here and headed back to Athens tomorrow and then out to Naxos by ferry. It’s the start of our unplanned portion of the trip. We have a few free hours in Athens tomorrow and Ron has decided to go to the Archaeological Museum and I have decided to go anywhere else. So far, I’ve picked a meat market, the Monastiraki neighborhood of Athens to see the flea market and some restaurant George suggested that’s set up like a fairy tale. It’s a wonder Ron will tour with me at all.

We saw every monastery and nunnery in Meteora. Most required 15 minutes walks in, up crazy staircases carved out of the rocks. It was 80 degrees here today – in March! It would be tough in July.

Here’s a good shot of most of the monasteries:

  1. I thought it was quite an amazing site. We, too, climbed up, and up…..and up but it was worth the view. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

  2. Did you stay in Meteora area? Visit Meteora.travel has an all day train trip from Athens. 7:20 train and not back to Athens until 10pm. Met at train station and taken to monasteries. Persons on RS forum think it is crazy to spend all that time on train?
