Romania and Bulgaria – a return to my roots

I’m packed and ready to head back out! Who knew that a 25-day turnaround time between trips to Europe was workable??? And I was not fired by my law practice partner for this indefensible vacationing decision – so thank you to my esteemed colleague!

I do find that planning and executing a monthlong trip – from airfare, to train connections, to coordinating and pairing (and getting lost looking for) site entries is a pretty momentous task. That 31-day Germany trip last month was the biggest thing I’ve ever pieced together. So for this trip, I am simply showing up, ready to see whatever Odysseys Unlimited has chosen for us.

I’ve booked a 17 day tour of Bulgaria and Romania and enlisted the company of my daughter! Our family came from Romania in the early 20th century so we both have a keen interest in this area.

And confidential to all the Ron fans out there – he’s staying home – so it’s up to you – not me – to keep track of his iPhone until mid-June. It’s currently in his pocket and I’m now off duty…you are all officially in charge.

My daughter has some pretty major shoes to fill in terms of mucking up our plans, losing items, purchasing snack foods, and hitting her head on low entries. Let’s see how she fares.

I’ll talk with you in a few days. The map above is the very basic footprint of the tour. We’re spending a little bit of time in London as well.

  1. Safe travels for you and Grace. My Bulgarian neighbor gave me a big Bulgarian novel, which was a good read, but too heavy to lug around—you could try the e-version, except it’s probably not something you’d want to read a few minutes here, a few minutes there:

  2. Have a wonderful time! I know you’ll enjoy not having to plan every little thing. Or minding that “Ron’s phone” thing! I’ve leaving Thursday with my whole family (ages 17 to well, a lot older), all 11 of us, for the Adriatic tour. Have fun and I’ll be watching for further posts. I really enjoy them!

      1. Excited! First time to travel as a family group although I have been to Europe with each of them at one time or another. Like you, I am blessed with a family that loves traveling.

  3. The next best thing to me not traveling, is reading about Valerie traveling! A 25 day turnaround sounds about right to me. And agree, planning a long(ish) trip takes countless hours! Have a wonderful time!
