Hey…this isn’t Denmark!

Instead of taking our trip to Sweden and Denmark we decided, instead, to spend some time at various medical clinics and emergency rooms.

Crisis averted (or at least kind of managed) and ever-willing to come up with a new plan…any plan…that gets us traveling, we substituted Chicago for Scandinavia and I got to work planning. Using Ron’s love for his LA Dodgers, and coupling that with his devotion to donuts, I planned a week of baseball/fried pastry activities:

  • An architectural boat tour
  • Two 90-minute architectural walking tours
  • A 7-hour minibus tour of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings
  • An evening baseball-adjacent lecture called New Architecture, New World
  • The opportunity to meet a penguin at the Shedd Aquarium

And then, instead of my week with Ron, another medical issue dictated that Ron stay home while a new medicine took hold, and the decisions that I’ve long pondered arrived.

Do I go alone?

Can I blog a trip where my muse, my foil, my sweetest best friend is not with me?

I don’t know.

To the Ron fans: please don’t worry. I have left him rooming with one of his oldest friends. They’ve got lots of restaurant plans, they’re hosting some bridge gatherings, doing our LeMay car museum, and hitting the gym. They have list of visitors so large that I fear a noise compliance violation notice from our HOA on my return.

(Note: I am writing this on the plane to Chicago and Ron has already messaged me an apparently urgent question about cooking a grocery store lasagne. From what he can ascertain of the cooking instructions, he is supposed to cook that 48 ounces of beef lasagne for only 8 minutes. Any friends or family nearby who want to second-chair a lasagne cooking to avoid a food poisoning event, please go ahead.)

Stay tuned. First up is the penguin encounter. And note: I have two tickets for everything I’m doing. If I’ve forgotten you live in Chicago and you want to hang out, message me to join Ron’s Donut/Baseball Adventure!

  1. We’re all so proud of you!! I hope you enjoy the trip. Pretend those tours/events are GD events, and “miracle” some bystander if you don’t find a local taker for any of them. 😊
