I do not get a good feeling about Venice

I know, I know, I know that Venice is a charming and unique city but I get this really ominous feeling now that we’re here. Above is the amazing view from our room, looking down onto the Grand Canal.

But by the time we got to our hotel room, Ron had nearly fallen into a canal while trying to board the water taxi I had booked for us. And then we were ushered over to our “junior” suite, which I thought indicated a modest amount of luxury – but not too much – yet instead indicates that the room should only be accessed by the elementary school set and certainly never assigned to the Ron we all know so well.

Here’s our entry door:

Once I got him off the water taxi and through the front door, I then have to remind him…continuously…not to fall out of the bathroom – it’s at least an 8 inch drop out of the bathroom into our room. Notice in the picture below the substantial damage caused to the door by some poor previous hotel guest:

Tomorrow we have a busy day of typical Venice sites – the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica. First thoughts on Venice are that it’s packed and it’s wonderful to be back. I promise some actual travel photos tomorrow but leave you with this, from the Venice airport, where they really stress…something…about the proper Italian way to go.

  1. Well, your hotel had me at the view, but lost me with the hole in the door. Hope it was clean? I hope you end up loving Venice, I have not been there since 1984, must. go. back.

  2. Hahaha…..I took a similar “toilet” photo when we took the cog rail up the mountain in Mount Blanc! Sadly no accompanying words, though. Poor Ron! My husband as 6’3” and had similar experiences. Plus he never seemed to realize how tall he was. Enjoy your trip!
